DOES GOD FORGIVE ALL SINS? 

  • No sin is greater or more deadly than another. All sin is sin.
    • Romans 6:23
      • For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

PRIDE

  • The excessive belief in one's own abilities interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise. Pride is also known as Vanity.
    • Counterpart: Humility, meekness, love God, love others, appropriate self-worth.
  • Proverbs 16:18
    • Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall.

ENVY

  • The desire for others' traits, status, abilities, or situation.
    • Counterpart: Love, joy, thankfulness, compassion, satisfaction.
  • Proverbs 23:17-18
    • Don’t envy sinners, but always continue to fear the Lord. You will be rewarded for this; your hope will not be disappointed.
  • James 3:14-16
    • But if you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart, don’t cover up the truth with boasting and lying. For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic. For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.

GLUTTONY

  • An inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires.
    • Counterpart: Love, joy, thankfulness, compassion, satisfaction.
  • Proverbs 23:20
    • Do not carouse with drunkards or feast with gluttons, for they are on their way to poverty, and too much sleep clothes them in rags.

LUST

  • An inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body.
    • Counterpart: Love, unselfishness.
  • Matthew 5:28
    • But I say anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
  • Proverbs 6:25
    • Don’t lust for her beauty. Don’t let her coy glances seduce you.

ANGER (WRATH)

  • Is manifested in the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury. It is also known as Wrath. 
    • Counterpart: Peace, gentleness, self-control.
  • Psalms 37:8
    • Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper— it only leads to harm.
  • Proverbs 15:1
    • A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare.

GREED

  • The desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. It is also called Avarice or Covetousness.
    • Counterpart: Generosity, kindness.
  • Luke 12:15
    • Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.
  • 1 Corinthians 6:10
    • Nor are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.

SLOTH

  • The avoidance of physical or spiritual work.
    • Counterpart: Perseverance, diligence, servanthood, discipline.
    • Proverbs 13:4
      • Lazy people want much but get little, but those who work hard will prosper.
    • Proverbs 12:24
      • Work hard and become a leader; be lazy and become a slave.
